Happy Jack at the Farm
Young Jack gets to spend the summer with his Aunt Marcy and Uncle Steve at their farm on the Snake River in Idaho. Each morning, Jack works hard, and he plays hard in the afternoons. He eats many wonderful and delicious fruits and vegetables, and is learning so many new things on the farm.
Each day is an exciting adventure. Jack is amazed at the beauty of nature, and prays thanks each night for all his blessings.
As the summer reaches its end, Jack realizes he has grown bigger, stronger, and happier than ever before while at his aunt and uncle’s farm.
While he was still young, Dennis Woodwell studied art at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). He has lived and worked on different farms for most of his life, in addition to working as an RN. He lives with his wife, Gloria, and their farm cats in Kealakekua on the Big Island of Hawaii, where he’s worked for the last 48 years. Now retired, he continues to work his farm of macadamia nuts, avocados, coffee, and exotic tropical fruits. His children are grown and living in Utah and Maryland on the mainland.
Dennis is inspired to write by the joy and excitement of farm life, and aims to build children’s strength and character with an awareness and appreciation for the beauty of nature through his writing. The farm portrayed in Happy Jack at the Farm is his sister Marcy’s farm, named the Goose Beach Farm on the Snake River in Idaho. His next book, Happy Jack in Hawaii, is forthcoming.
